Liver- Red- Sari (Sarplaninac) -Sharplaninatz Dogs
My daughter and Rusty taking a nap
This is the page dedicated to a very rare but typical color for Old Serbian Sheepdogs. Recently it came to my attention that some web-sites with so called " experts " are being more than harsh in describing the specimens with this color.  Fortunately it takes a long time to really know any breed and in the case of Sharplaninatz dogs imagination is not necessary.  All that is necessary is to get in depth of the standard and to take time and learn a little bit of the genetics, and not to exploit the unstable political situation in breeds country of origin.
One of the points made on that site was that Liver (Sari) specimens are weak and that Sheppards were culling them for the lack of the substance and strength.  Puppy on the above photos is my seven months old Rusty. He was 94 lbs at the time and very agile and strong.
Seven months old Shara's Rusty
This photo shows 14 months old Rusty with his cousin Cal. Cal is a great representative of the breed and I personally do not see a difference between Cal's and Rusty's coat , and one of the points made on above mentioned site was that Liver specimen have poor coat and can not cop with harsh environment.
I  saw red or Liver dogs up on the Mountain Shara some thirty years ago.and I am sorry but no one told me that they were in any way inferior.  This goes to question the claim made on previously mentioned site that red or liver color exists  for only 10 years and is a product of  inbreeding, ... NONSENSE...!!!
One of the wannabe experts sad that red sharplaninatz were destroyed for the lack of the protective instinct. NONSENCE !!!
The male in the foreground is Shara's Cal ,and by many, one of the exemplarily specimens of the breed.  But, !!! his mother,.( Shara's Baby had two sisters that were Liver color.  You can see them on our site (on our puppies page and if you click on Zoe and Snickers).  According to some "experts" all the puppies born in the litter with liver puppies should  be destroyed.    NONSENSE...!!!
This photo represents three colors of the Sharplaninatz Dogs. According to some instant experts one of the dogs should have lighter bone structure and be generally weaker specimen , that one should be destroyed. I can not say which one , can you ???

                                Winter fun..
Shara's Ognjen , son of Cal & Gina is one of  our newest stars. He is growing to be very stable and confidante dog, nothing to be ashamed of, despite of what some " experts " might say
This is all I had to say for now. Deliberately I did not mention the web-sites where one could find some information on the dog genetics, because people that are making the above mentioned  statements think that they know everything, anyway.  Others, I do not need to educate because they are smart enough to find the facts before making such statements.  Deliberately I did not post any other photos but photos of my recent dogs, even thought I have photos and video material of many dogs hidden away because their breeders do not know that they are not albino and that there is nothing wrong with them. One thing is very important to me, that is temperamental  and physical strength of this exceptional breed, and thankfully that does not depend on the opinion of a few. I want to invite other people with red, liver Sharplaninatz dogs to send me a photos and I will post them on this page along with the stories about them. Also I invite everybody with legit argument against  them to make his or her case.

                                                                                                                                             Zoran Milovukovic
